STAND UP WITH US — NATIONAL SUMMER SEND-OFF
American colleges and universities have long been the envy of the world. They provide the freedom to explore the boundaries of human knowledge, to question what we think we know, and to push our country forward. History is littered with moments where these institutions and these freedoms have been attacked–with horrifying consequences. The need is urgent!
We now stand at a crossroads—executive orders, illegal funding cuts to federal agencies, and threats to block financial support to universities who do not support the administration’s agenda threaten American higher education as we know it. When people have knowledge, people have power, and that’s exactly why colleges, universities, and academics are under attack right now.
At this point, college and university administrations fall into three categories:
Those who are standing tall, for whom we can show our support.
Those who are waffling and need to be reminded of their core values.
Those who have capitulated to the Trump Administration and need to see that they have betrayed their students, faculty, staff, and values.
On the last day of classes, at colleges and universities around the country we will unite in a summer send off to stop the Trump Administration’s war on knowledge. Together, we stand up and speak out for our core values of freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of academic inquiry–for everyone. If we fail to organize now, irreparable damage could be done by Trump over the summer.
We stand up for science, humanities, literature, mathematics, medicine, research, progress, all students, all faculty, all staff, and freedom. We demand university leaders across the nation to do the same: unite with peers, publicly, and STAND UP WITH US.
